With the help of her former Squadron Commander, General LeMae, Susan Turner attempts to lead the nation through these turbulent times while battling her own internal demons. Susan is a battle-hardened war veteran but she must learn what it takes to be a world leader. Nuclear war and the future of the human race hang in the balance.

Even when the President is selected at random, politics is still a dirty business. Opponents plan their attacks from the shadows, but you know what they say about the best laid plans.

The Dove Revolution changed the face of the American political arena. Elections are no more and the President and Congress are selected at random every two years by the public. When Susan Turner, former Army helicopter pilot is convinced to accept her selection as President, she will find more than her own demons to conquer, she must find a way to prevent a war that would devastate the world with the push of a button.

Behind every political machination are the puppeteers with the real power to shape the world and in Susan’s world, a secret cabal of financial power mongers will do anything to bring war between the United States and the Soviet Union. Can Susan avoid playing into their hands or will she be a pawn in a deadly game of political chess?

J. Allen Wolfrum’s SELECTED is a fictional tale of political espionage, deceit and murder set in a world that has found a unique way to handle leadership. Let go of reality and sit like a fly on the wall as one woman enters the political arena, armed with only her own sense of right and wrong, as well as her own baggage from her past.

Mr. Wolfrum has created an easy to read drama with a sense of suspense and populated it with main characters that feel like they could be your neighbor, just regular people with a family. Supporting characters seem real, too, the ones we imagine actually pull the strings, the ones doing the dirty work for their own gain. That said, this is fiction, this is well-written, avoids being overly dark, is certainly creative and I was hooked from start to finish! I don’t always need or want an overly complicated conspiracy, so this made for a quick read and an interesting escape!

MY REVIEW

I enjoyed this thriller. It was well written and brings to light how "The Board", makes the decisions for us. There are lots of behind the scene double-crossing going on in this book. Where the new President Susan is the pawn. She is trying to lead the country away from war with the Soviet Union who is just as powerful as the US. She tries to take control and rationalize and theorize why they are putting her in a position that doesn't give her choices. I enjoyed how "real" she is in this book. She is a likable character and mother. She is trying to keep her boys close and safe while going through all the political turmoil.

Forces are at play and things get downright scary thinking about either the Soviet Union or the US pressing that red button and putting in launch codes. The Soviet wants to take control of some boarding neighbors to control their oil to bring the Soviet back from financial collapse. The powers that be want complete control to rule all the land - so to speak. Susan is a great thinker and has had enough military experience to figure a way around all of this. I enjoyed this thriller and recommend this book to thriller lovers without all the gore.

I give this book 4 of 5 stars!

In his debut novel, Selected, author J. Allen Wolfrum weaves a riveting political thriller that will captivate the reader's attention, and keep them sitting on the edge of their seats.

Selected is a multi-layered fast-paced tale that is masterfully interwoven with domestic and international intrigue; secrets, deception, and hidden agendas; political posturing, plots, threats, and enough surprising twists and turns that transports the reader into the fascinating world of politics and terrorism. The author easily engages the reader to follow former Army helicopter pilot, Lt. Colonel and newly selected United State President Susan Turner and her former Squadron Commander, General Curtis LeMae, as they uncover a dangerous and serious plot by The Board, a shadow organization, and the Soviet Union to manipulate foreign relations

The reader follows along as Susan and Curtis get caught up in the middle of a dangerous web of domestic and international political threats, deceit, and sinister agendas as this realistic story unfold. This is an exciting and dramatic story that will keep the reader guessing who is behind the domestic and foreign political plots until all the puzzle pieces are put together, and the explosive truth is unveiled in this dangerous international cat and mouse game.

As a fan of political thrillers, I really enjoyed how the author transports the reader into the fascinating inner workings of the domestic and international political world. When you add in the suspense and danger of the plot on the US presidency, you get an explosive story that takes you on one hell of a thrill ride. Selected is a book that you won't be able to put down!

I enjoyed this thought provoking political novel of the future. We readers get an idea of how powerful an industrial complex can be, especially when it has exclusive government contracts. We see the political impact of leaked documents, especially ones that are fake. We see how political statements can sway the public, especially when those statements are made by people having no idea of the kinds of negotiations political leaders must make behind closed doors.

Turner, the female president, is well crafted. There is a good balance of her life as a mother and her responsibilities as president.

I do wish the concept of the Dove Resolution, the reason Turner was “selected,” would have been better explained. Apparently there had been long lasting riots and some change in the U S laws. How such a huge change came to be under the current constitution is not explained.

I so recommend this novel of political intrigue to readers who enjoy a good plot with many thought provoking aspects to it.

This is one of the most pitiful Ebooks I ever read. Implausible plot. Terrible syntax. Numerous errors of fact. Unfamiliarity with subject (2 Air Force pilots in the same fighter planes are seldom, if ever, both Lt Colonels - Crimea was annexed in total two or three years before the eBook was written - a female Army helicopter and an ex high school teacher, "selected" to become President of the USA; get serious; totally implausible).
Do not quit your day job.

The President, the Senate, and Congress are no longer voted on. The Dove Revolution rose up and has selected these members for two year terms. This time former Army Lieutenant Colonel Susan Hunter has been selected as President. Initially she is going to turn this position down but follows through with it.

Unfortunately The Board of Pacific International has their own plans. They are a group of big companies that are very interested in Eastern Europe for manufacturing and raw materials. What better way to help themselves than to start a war between America and Russia with bombings and fake documents.

The Board of Pacific International essential helps Susan get selected because of her past performance of flying off the handle. But Susan has the help of her former commander to help her try to keep the country from going to nuclear war.

It’s really scary to think about how the big companies were manipulating the selection and everything else just to gain profits. Granted things like this happen in today’s politics, I would hope not to this extent. This gave the story a real feel to it. The problem I had with it was I would like to have learned why The Dove Revolution happened and how it can to the idea of a Selection to full the government.

Over all this is a good story that had me curious at where it was going. There were a couple things that I had to not think about too much. I wonder if this is going to be a standalone story or a series. I do think that there is a great possibility to see more of Susan Hunter.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. I like books that are set in the future and imagine how things might be. This book takes how we chose our President and turns it on its head. Presidents are now selected every two years and the previous President becomes the Vice President. I liked how the story dealt with false news or fake news and shows how that can sway people's opinion. Overall this was a very entertaining read and I enjoyed it very much. I would give it a four out of five stars.

I received a review copy from Partners in Crime and was not required to write a positive review.

Good political thriller by a debut author

Great premise - the President, Senate and Congress are all selected not elected. Definitely a set up for a sequel.
Pros: it’s a quick read that holds your interest. For a self-published book it was properly edited (there was nothing that took me out of the story).
Cons: confused by the brother’s role.
I’m looking forward to the sequel.

A great debut

This is the first novel in what I hope will be part of the Susan Turner series. Wolfrum wrote a tight fast-paced tale of political deception and intrigue that is perfectly timed given the current landscape. A terrific debut piece of writing that has me eager to learn more about President Turner.

This hasn’t happened in a while:
Debut novel + 100% engrossing + read in one sitting = 5 stars!!

Democracy is no longer in America. It’s now The Dove Revolution, where the President, Senators and Congressmen are selected for a 2 year term. And Susan Hunter, former Army Lt. Col. has been selected to be the next President of the United States. A great honor but she is going to decline, that is, up to the last minute, when she accepts the position. However, The Board of Pacific International, a conglomerate of big companies interested in Eastern European manufacturing, raw material, and transportation have bigger plans and one of them is to use Susan Hunter as collateral damage without her knowledge.

The world is watching as the U.S. and the Soviet Union teeter on war as highly sensitive documents are leaked and attacks on U.S. soil are unleashed. Are the Soviets behind the bombings? Are the documents false? Can President Hunter prevent a nuclear war? Or are those that are behind the bombings succeed in their plan?

A riveting story that I could not put down! At times, I found myself holding my breath due to the heightened missions described! This book was one hell of an intense read! Powerful!

I am hoping, hint, hint Mr. Wofrum, that a sequel is on the horizon! I will be looking for more work by this author! Recommend? Absolutely!!! I’m sure, like me, you will be captivated!
